This is a Yivrian dirge. It mourns the passing of a unnamed clan
patriarch who has fallen in battle. The poem is short and has only the
barest Yivrian meter, and to be honest I don't like the imagery in it.
This is the oldest (in real-life time) text that is presented here.
YivrianNiper keyyo da yivreduron
Sith aduren, neleni ilohes
Ku sithya vassa aakav nessil
Vassa ilillu, kulvahes na daron
Peren ef yindar, toviloya!
Ennaradívi duronyoas
Ailo, ailo! El pa veyim
Ta ela élon gilaivi ta narva
Ta kéluneni elaya Vandar
Té yindar, tovarahya onaisír
Lai eo var ota nikínar
Kalelorívi etto eyi
Dar fayan ala élona
EnglishThis voice is heard in the meeting-hall
While a song of mourning, saddened death-drums
Sing a song of a great battle
A song most sad, emptied of joy
It says, "People, be sorrowful!
Our patriarch has been killed
Woe, woe! He is no longer
And with him our sun and the moon
And every star is with Vandar
But people, enlighten your eyes
For there is light above these airs
Our Kalelori still are
Joy will come to us from them
